The Answer Is, of Course, That They're Oblivious To Their Own Hypocrisy
How are Republicans going to sell John McCain's bravery in North Vietnamese captivity without highlighting that some of the torture techniques used on McCain are also a part of the Republican anti-terror agenda?
CLARIFICATION: The salient portion of the linked-to op-ed is stress positions, not the breaking of bones.
And, to head off the next Republican argument, just because what you're doing isn't as bad as what someone else has done, that doesn't make it good.
We intentionally create compound fractures to the limbs of captured combatants and set them in misshapen casts so that the bone sets crooked?
I thought that we actually provided such good healthcare to our detainees that Michael Moore used this as a propaganda tool in Sicko.

Thanks for the clarification, but it does take away from that moral equality you were trying to paint there between the GOP and the VietCong.
And as has been mentioned here before, all techniques bore the Democratic seal of approval, that is until the subject became a handy political bludgeon.

You brought up McCain's hypocrisy (which I don't deny), so I guess Obama's hypocrisy is fair game, too.
Six weeks ago, Obama stood by Jeremiah Wright, the man who not only brought Obama to God but also gave him credibility in the black community and Chicago politics. Obama said he could no more disown his racist pastor than he could disown his "racist" grandmother. (Nice move, Obama--blaming Wright's racism on white America while blaming your grandmother's rational fear of a specific, aggressive black panhandler on the same white racism. No matter what, it's all whitey's fault!)
Jeremiah "God Damn America" Wright has continued to spout his anti-white, anti-American vitriol, which was expected. However, only now that he has made a personal attack on Obama has Obama renounced Wright. Ultimately, Obama isn't reacting to Wright's anti-American and racist message; Obama is repudiating Wright's personal attack on BHO himself.
The thing to remember here is that despite his protestations to the contrary, Obama has known all along what Wright stands for, because he was warming a pew in Wright's church nearly every Sunday for twenty years. There's no way he could have missed hearing Wright's hate-filled, un-Christian message.
For Obama to claim now that Wright's comments are new to him makes him a liar on a scale that exceeds even that of the oleaginous Bill Clinton. Clinton lied about specific facts and events; Obama is lying about the last 20 years of his life.
And you still want this guy to be president? Unbelievable.
