Be still my beating conservative heart! I must say I have never understood these compulsory union wage deals. In high school I was a valued employee of a local food store chain and as such was required to pay for membership in the Grocery workers local. This union did nothing for us, and I'm convinced that it was because if we wanted to work, we had to be members. While at one time I believe unions were necessary, situations such as the one I expeienced tend to make unions worse than the employers they supposedly protect their members from.

What a sweetheart you are! Such a plug---and if my union dues have been used to line your pockets, then I have no beef with that. At least The Union helped someone's children.

Pursuit has a good point. Many of us don't need protection from our employers anymore. But the public ought to be very worried about how the NEA protects bad teachers.
