Now wait a cotton-pickin' minute there, Tom. These guys get paid to say stuff, so they say stuff. End of story. Nothing to see here. Move along.

Somehow this is worse than Keith Olbermann's "Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles" comment?

What I suppose is bothering Tom is that under liberalism, it's not permitted to make generalizations about a group if there's even one member of that group for whom that generalization does not apply. Also, generalizations are especially forbidden if they happen to be true and are about a designated minority.

That blacks, as a group, are (at least in certain sports) some of the finest athletes on the planet can be seen by anyone with a room temperature-level IQ and exposure to pro sports like football and basketball.

I recently encountered (sorry, don't remember where) the statistic that about 98% of the top 500 speeds in the 400- and 800-meter dashes were set by blacks.

The reasons for this prowess is physiological. In general, black men have narrower hips, giving them a mechanical advantage in running (the same holds for men vs. women). All else being equal, blacks have a lower percentage of body fat than other races, higher bone density, and, most important for running, their leg muscles tend to "bunch" higher on the legs. This means that the lower parts of the leg, the ones that move the greatest distance when running, are comparatively lighter than those of other races.

One down side to the higher bone density and lower body fat is that many black men have negative buoyancy; i.e., they sink. This is reflected in the high rates of accidental drownings of young black men, many of whom never learned to swim--and who can blame them? How much would you enjoy the water if you had to struggle just to keep your head above water?

However, we can never, ever state these facts about this designated minority group because 1, they're true; 2, they're generalizations; and 3, they illustrate the differences between groups, thus demonstrating the falsity of the liberal belief that "everyone is the same." With respect to the drowning issue, it doesn't matter that we might save lives just by raising awareness; generalizations are strictly verboten.

So, obviously, it's racist™ to be unsurprised that the half-black Obama, who shot varsity hoops in high school, is good at the sport.

Isn't the liberal world order wonderful?

Darn darn darn! My sincere apologies for the double posting; more connection problems.

"Chicken and Waffles" ?
Is Olbermann on crack?
Is there a stereotype regarding blacks and waffles that I don't know about? I like waffles. Ruh-roh... it all makes sense now.

I didn't double-post. I just demand equal time with Squidley

"verboten"
Where do I know that word from? If I could just remember. Was there a group that people used to generally associate that word with?

Now that was funny.

Wally,

Chicken and waffles is very big in Harlem. Something about jazz musicians eating after their gigs very early in the a.m.

Next time you're in New York you can try them here: http://www.melbasrestaurant.com/

I believe Sylvia's also serves them.

Thanks PoH,
It's pretty bad when I have to pick up on cultural touchstones from the internets instead of the real world.

Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles is a Hollywood landmark.

"I recently encountered (sorry, don't remember where) the statistic that about 98% of the top 500 speeds in the 400- and 800-meter dashes were set by blacks."
Yeah. And I don't remember where I saw it either, but 87% of white males let their butt crack show when bending over.
And 93% of black males smoke crack.
Just can't remember where I saw it.

Catmoves,

You may not have noticed this before, but I don't generally post things I claim as true without backing them up with links to support my claims. I just couldn't find that link again, and I apologize for that.

Of course, I'm just delusional when I say that there could actually be physiological or genetic differences among races, when all right-thinking people know that's wrong. Accordingly, Tay-Sachs disease, cystic fibrosis, lactose intolerance, and sickle-cell anemia are equally likely to occur in all races.

Or maybe not.

P.S.: Hi, Conrad--I mean, Leni.
