Do you have access to the entire bill? My guess is it included a lot more than simply teaching kindergartners about inappropriate touching. I assume you have read the entire bill before calling McCain a liar?

"the Democratic opposition will be so embittered they won't cooperate with anything "

Like that would be new.

Interesting.
http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/fulltext.asp?DocName=&SessionId=3&GA=93&DocTypeId=SB&DocNum=99&GAID=3&LegID=734&SpecSess=&Session=

"Each class or course in comprehensive sex education offered in any of grades K through 12 shall
include instruction on the prevention of sexually transmitted infections, including the prevention, transmission and spread
of HIV"

Seems Obama lied when he claimed the bill only addressed inappropriate touching for kindergartners.

It is an interesting read into what Obama things the school system should be teaching children as opposed to parents. Thanks for bringing it to my attention Tom.

I have read the proposed legislation. And the federal DoE guidelines that it basically parrots. And there is more in there than teaching kids how to handle abusers.

However, the underlying principle is "age appropriate sex education", which for the K-3 crowd is basically limited to good/bad touch and what to do when someone is on the wrong side of that line.

This "ad" was a lie. Nothing about that ad encourages teaching kids about sex before they can read.

Look, if someone wants to have a debate about sex education, that's fine. Opinions differ. There are valid arguments.

Characterizing that Illinois legislation as teaching kids about sex in kindergarten, however, is not valid argument. It's crap. And it's designed to obfuscate real discussion while simultaneously fooling a few idiots who are too lazy to bother with the truth.

And that is sad. Very sad.

And those who offer kneejerk defenses of this garbage are sad.

For the first time in my life, I'm truly ashamed of my country.

Who determines "age appropriate"? Why should government schools that fail to teach subjects such as math and reading well be given the mandate to teach sex ed? Especially to 5 year olds?

"However, the underlying principle is "age appropriate sex education", which for the K-3 crowd is basically limited to good/bad touch and what to do when someone is on the wrong side of that line."

If that is the case, why was the clause I referenced above about STDs amended to state that all classes from K - 12 would receive such classes from the original 6-12?

To paraphrase: Characterizing that Illinois legislation as teaching kids in kindergarten only about good touch/bad touch, however, is not valid argument. It's crap. And it's designed to obfuscate real discussion while simultaneously fooling a few idiots who are too lazy to bother with the truth.

"For the first time in my life, I'm truly ashamed of my country" You should perhaps contact Michelle Obama, she was ashamed of her country for her entire life until she recently stated that "For the first time in my life, I'm proud of my country". She may be able to help you.

Oh, that nefarious right-wing media! It's not like their coverage of Obama has been exceedingly slanted in his favor, with the percentage of bad press about the Obamamessiah down in the single digits.

Oh, wait. It has. "Seven times more Obama stories were positive than negative over the course of the primaries." Get that? Seven times.

Please tell us more about the eeevil right wing media, Tom!

"Tell me again about how patriotic the Republican Party is. Explain to me one more time how John McCain puts country first."

Gotta hand it to you there, Tom. McCain puts McCain first, and the heck with America.

The Republican Party started its descent into oblivion by following W. In so doing, the party has jettisoned one principle after another as it lurches ever-leftward in its support of W and his liberalism. After months of agonized hand-wringing, "conservatives" have jettisoned almost all their remaining principles to stand by their new man, McCain, who will proudly, and arrogantly, lead them even further left than W. President McCain will destroy the Republican party from within, finishing the job W started.

This is why I sometimes think that it'd be better if the abomination known as Obama won, because President Obama would revitalize conservatism, instead of kill it.

I still can't vote for either one of these mediocrities.

We're Screwed '08!

The Obama camp's meme is that McCain lied when his ad claimed that Obama sponsored a bill promoting sex ed for kindergartners. Tom parroted this meme when he wrote,

"...the legislation never passed and doesn't require anything like what the ad says it does."

Fine--except that this statement is completely false.

(Illinois) Senate Bill 99 would have expanded sex-ed all the way down to kindergarten: STDs, pregnancy, contraception--the whole ball of wax. What's more, the bill would have gutted existing language that required teaching abstinence, as well as respect and honor for monogamous heterosexual marriage.

While Obama may not have sponsored or written the bill, he did vote for it. While he might not have understood its full implications, it would have required everything the McCain ad claimed.

Who's lying now?
