Senate Republicans refused to consider the serious issue of ending the District of Columbia's taxation without representation until the Senate had voted on the decidedly un-serious issue of banning the Fairness Doctrine. The Fairness Doctrine, of course, is not something the FCC or Congress was seriously considering, and in any case it was opposed by President Obama.
The amendment passed 87-11 after limited debate consisting primarily of befuddled Senators asking what the hell was going on.
There is apparently no truth to the rumor that Republicans will next demand that the Senate ban monsters under the bed.
