I loved this http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/03/24/teleprompter-vs-no-telepr_n_178474.html

Hehe. And the world has seen Palin without a teleprompter. Holy moly. She's one smart gal.

Wow....

You sure get your knickers in a twist if anyone dares to criticize King Barry.

Besides, no one doubts that Barry can speak. We're just not real sure that he can THINK.

You will note that i'm not disturbed at all that someone is criticizing President Obama. Note that I'm ridiculing and entire political movement that has to make things up to do so.

Oh, I wasn't aware that an "entire political movement" made up the fact that Obama is clued to a teleprompter. I also never knew the London times as part of an american political movement, since that is where this story evidently originated.

Seems like after dishing it out for the past 8 years, the thin skinned left would be a little better at taking it.

The entire premise of your post is flawed. No one claims that King Barry is inarticulate.
Unintelligent, maybe. Inarticulate? Certainly not.

Keep chasing windmills.

Steve,
I agree that we don't need to call the Waahmbulance® everytime someone says something untrue about Barack Obama. The thing I find unsettling about your comments, however, is your take on Obama's intelligence or lack, thereof. If you were asserting that he is unprincipled or wishy-washy I would not be able to mount a convincing argument to dissuade you. I believe he is principled and will follow through on those principles but time will tell. But, plainly, he is an intelligent man. I could also see your point if you were complaining about radical policy changes. So far though, torture, stem cell research and support for Roe v Wade are the only substantive differences from the last Administration. The Stimulus package's largest section is $288 billion in tax cuts, Republican's and conservative's favorite blunt instrument of choice. The cash giveaway to the Banksters that Geithner is pushing is the same plan (in a pastel blue shade) that Paulson was pushing under Bush. It is the plan that will maintain the status quo on Wall St. if and when there is recovery. A slow, orderly reduction of troops from Iraq includes leaving a force there indefinitely. Sounds like something Rummy might come up with. So, the main problem for Republicans right now seems to be that these programs are being put forth by Democrats. Looking at many of the concessions the Democrats have made, I can safely say that the end results have looked more like McConnell and Boehner's wish list than that of mine and other liberals and progressives. So let's get beyond the sniping and call this what it is. Party politics. Then maybe the President and the Democratic majority can stop playing nice and start doing what they were elected to do. Correct the shit that the Republicans have done in the name of Americans for the last eight years.

If my opinion counts for anything, I think the post had nothing to do with Obama or people criticizing Obama. It had to do with the nature of the people doing the criticizing, as a reflection of what they choose to criticize, which is something that is entirely fictional: that he requires a teleprompter because he is somehow deficient at speaking. Thats' obviously not true, so it says something about the people who act as if it is. Which is: they're nuts.

If that's not the implication, I'd be curious about what the significance of the teleprompter thing is. For now, I'm going with my conclusion that the people hung up on it are crazy.

Of course, not all criticism of the President is crazy. And your assumption that I would object to any complaint about the President is not supported by reality any more than was your previous assumption that my complaints about President Bush were motivated by hatred or derangement.

It fascinates me that conservatism is so empty that the criticism that gets the most traction in the conservative media is, by and large, unrelated to reality. I've never seen a group of people so utterly obsessed with complaints that are fictional.

Wally:

Thanks for your comments, one question:
" But, plainly, he is an intelligent man"

Skilled politician, certainly, but intelligent? Based on what? Skilled politician, certainly, but intelligent? Haven't seen much evidence.

You'd be surprised to know, that of the examples you cited; "Torture, stem cell research and support for Roe v Wade"
We probably only disagree with the definition of Torture.

Tom, you hang on to your own belief that the teleprompter thing is a reflection of his speaking ability. I've told you my opinion, it has nothing to do with his ability to speak (or his charisma) those things are without question. I do however question his ability to think on his feet. The teleprompter IMO is a crutch so he stays on his talking points. But what do I know? I'm nuts by your definition.

"I've never seen a group of people so utterly obsessed with complaints that are fictional."

I guess you missed the Clinton administration and things like the "vast right wing conspiracy".

Then again, I posted the exact same statement twice in a row.

Maybe I need a post-a-prompter. :)

I watched Obama field questions for two hours today. He didn't miss a trick. His responses were direct, mature and coherent. The idea that he's teleprompter dependent defies apparent reality.

Obama graduated from Columbia University and Harvard Law. He was president of the Harvard Law Review. He was an adjunct professor at the University of Chicago, teaching Constitutional Law to some of the brightest students in the world, and received uniformly high evaluations from both his students and his peers. That you "haven't seen much evidence" suggests that you are willfully ignoring the facts.

You're in the right political party, Steve. Republicans are all about defying apparent reality and willfully ignoring facts.

"Obama graduated from Columbia University and Harvard Law. He was president of the Harvard Law Review. He was an adjunct professor at the University of Chicago, teaching Constitutional Law to some of the brightest students in the world, and received uniformly high evaluations from both his students and his peers"

That's nice. GW Bush graduated from Yale and yet he was still called stupid.

Point?

George W. Bush couldn't talk without a teleprompter.
